Types of Video Annotations on ReClipped

We describe video annotation as any form of contextual note on the video.

There are 5 different video annotation types that you can create on ReClipped.

  1. Summary Note
  2. Highlights
  3. Snippets
  4. Snapshots
  5. Voice Notes

Each annotation type is best suited for a use case.

1. Summary Note: A special annotation to write a bunch of time-stamped notes

A Summary Note is a special annotation that facilitates for quick timestamped note-taking on videos.

Every time you click on the Pencil icon, the note captures the current timestamp of the video. You can write your notes next to the timestamp. While viewing the video, you can click on these timestamps to quickly navigate to the point in the video that is referred by your note.

You can have only 1 Summary Note per video and the contain snapshots as well as voice notes (described later)

These are best suited for creating notes on the whole video and use as a summary for reference and sharing

2. Highlights: Quick and distraction-free video annotation

Highlights allow you to create markers in the video without getting distracted. When you click on the Highlighter icon, an annotation with the current timestamp of the video is saved privately. By default, Highlights are of 10 seconds duration.

These are best used for quickly putting markers on a video without pausing. We recommend that you revisit the highlights after watching the video, adjust the start and end times, and add your note/synthesis to the section.

3. Snippets: Specific segments from video to build collections, to have contextual discussions and to share clips

When you create a Snippet, the video is paused and the focus is shifted to the note for you to start writing. After writing the note, you can edit the start and end times and save the note a Board.

4. Snapshots: Screenshots from videos

Snapshots are screenshots from the video. These enhance your note taking, learning and video analysis experience by many folds. Snapshots are always added as bullet point with current video timestamp at the end of the Summary Note

Unlike other apps, Snapshots from ReClipped are stored in the cloud. So, they are not lost when you clear browser memory.

At the moment, Snapshots can be taken only through the Browser extension only by clicking on the snapshot icon on the righthand sidebar widget.

5. Voice Notes: Audio recorded notes

ReClipped allows you to capture notes as audio recordings. Which means you can express your thoughts without the constraints of text. With Voice notes, you can capture notes in a jiffy, overcome the language barrier by recording in your spoken language, and provide feedback in a more understandable form.
